This old AGA was full of Fullers earth insulation. It’s a clay material that has the capability to de-colourize oil or other liquids without the need for chemicals, it’s also a very good insulator.
Fuller’s earth was mined, since Roman times, at numerous locations around England including Redhill in Surrey (hence the name).
Pre-war it was used as a paste for nappy rashes and is still used in expensive skin creams and face packs. But after 30+years of rubbing this all over my skin, I’m still old and wrinkly.
This months AGA restorations
We have had a run of Blue AGA’s this month so far, with a Light pewter four oven thrown in.
